WHY USE LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS

Safety Material

Laminated Glass is safer than Toughened Glass. Laminated Glass is more robust and when broken the glass panel retains its original shape, the pieces remain together because of the bonded Interlayer and the glass doesn’t break down or shatter.

Greater Strength

The combination of the two panels of glass, and an Interlayer makes Laminated Glass much stronger and harder to break than other glass products. On impact, only one panel within the structure would break, the remaining panel stays undamaged.

Greater Protection

Laminated Glass absorbs solar radiation and works as an acoustic insulator reducing noise levels. There are a range of Interlayers available for use, each offers greater protection from UV radiation or from noise pollution.

INTERLAYER LAMINATED GLASS

Glass that doesn’t break, even when broken

Laminated Interlayer Glass is the optimum in safety glass. It is a stronger, more structurally sound and more resilient glass. The interlayer is bonded to the glass so that even if one panel of glass were to break or shatter, the panel would remain attached to the interlayer as opposed to falling to the floor. In most instances, the secondary panel would remain intact and still perform until a replacement panel is sourced.

The concept of bonding two panels of glass, annealed or toughened, with an interlayer, is one that opens-up a whole world of possibilities in how a glass is used. The interlayer’s application and versatility allows it to perform as a UV radiation filter, a noise pollution filter, a fire rated barrier, or even a printable image.

DuPont™ SentryGlas® INTERLAYER LAMINATING

Secure by design

DuPont™ SentryGlas® interlayers help create lighter, safer, more structural glass that can stand up to greater loads and higher threat levels.

The SentryGlas® interlayer is five times stronger and up to 100 times stiffer than conventional laminating materials. With this kind of strength, the glass can be a more active structural element in the building design, opening-up architectural possibilities that didn’t exist before.

Besides its strength, SentryGlas® retains its clarity – even after years of service. Unlike other interlayers this premium product is much less vulnerable to moisture exposure or the effects of yellowing which can appear over time.

SentryGlas® interlayers meets society’s demand for higher security and protection too. As bullet proof and blast resistant glass is becoming mandatory in building projects, SentryGlas® interlayers meets today’s wider security needs.

This industrially acclaimed and trusted product can only be supplied by certified manufacturers of which Supertuff is one. We can supply DuPont™ SentryGlas® manufactured by our sister Company, Super Sealed Units (SSU).

FIRE RATED RESISTANT GLASS

Fire Safety

Natural light is a primary consideration in design and architecture today as it effects the senses and the well-being of a building’s occupants.

Architects are turning more and more to glass for exteriors and internal curtain walling as they transmit natural light further in to buildings.

While energy performance can help to manage the environmental aspect, building regulations cannot be ignored. To provide maximum safety and to meet fire safety regulations, Fire Rated Glass provides critical resistance to fire for a defined period ranging from 30 to 120 minutes. It also prevents the spread of fire through a building and helps protect essential exits routes keeping them fire free for evacuation.

In the event of a fire the interlayers will absorb the heat and prevent the transmission of heat and increased temperatures therefor ensuring that fire escape paths are safe to pass through.

Fire Rated Glass is suitable for many different applications such as partitions, screens and doors. It can be used with a variety of frames and can also be used in insulated units.

Supertuff stock Standard Fire Rated Glass and can cut panels to size.
